I have a 1999 Elddis Whirlwind caravan with a Cascade Carver Rapide hot water heater. The green light goes on and stays on when I start the gas heater but the gas does not ignite not can I hear it flowing. I have removed the control unit and gas is flowing to the unit when I turn on the gas tap and there is 12 volts going to the electrical supply.   I am guessing that a solenoid valve opens the gas supply and then the igniter is activated although this is not working for me. There seems to be little published on how these burned actually work and no circuit diagram that I can find. I live in New Zealand and there seem to be no service agents here, but maybe the control units can still be serviced in the UK. Any advice regarding the problem and how to solve it would be appreciated. The hearted works fine when switched to 230V and appears to be in excellent condition compared to some units that I see reports on in YouTube which are often very corroded or have even exploded.

I don't know if this website is any help. https://www.arcsystems.biz › manuals › cascade2

I have not used him myself, but I have heard that he is very good.

I had a cascade 2 that exploded (water - not gas!) in my caravan last year. Flooded my bedding locker. There is a rod that goes through the centre of the heater's water tank and this had corroded through inside the tank. Unfortunately there is no way to check for this without completely dismantling the heater, and doing so would be likely to snap the rod anyway. I can't really complain though as it was probably original and the caravan is now 30 years old.

Use the Search Forum facility and check previous threads. This topic has cropped up before. Our Carver water heater was goosed for gas: the burner was corroded & was never going to fire up. Smell of gas outside. Couldn’t replace the burner. We has to replace the whole heater as we didn’t know about arc systems at the time (before we joined UKCS). He’s mentioned regularly.

Ask Gary at Arc Systems.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
