Hey guys,

The floor in our Compass caravan, near the sink has started to delaminate (what can you expect from a 1992 caravan? haha). I've bought the kit to complete the job but wondered if anyone had any advice on how to trace the pipe work, as the affected area is right by the sink.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Almost all pipework is routed either on top of or under the floor. Underneath is easy to see and looking in cupbourds etc will usually reveal the pipework going to the taps, they will generally run close to the side wall and internal stuctures and well away from where you walk. Delamination is usually caused by the internal foam being squashed down by footfall.

Dave.

Thanks for this, I'll have a crawl about under the van at the weekend :) I've done the research on fixing the delamination and watched a few videos on how it's done and it seems easy enough but I didn't want to start going for it and hit a water or gas pipe and cause more problems.

I generally quite "handy" but this is the first caravan of our own so I'm learning as we go!

You only drill through the top ply to insert the dowels after the repair as there is a foam sandwich between the top and bottom ply so no pipes or cables to be concerned about at all. Even if the pipe work goes through the top ply of the floor and out through the bottom ply it still won't interfere with a delamination repair as you are just replacing the delamination gap with the adhesive before tapping home the corresponding dowels.

use plenty of dowels.. the strength is in the dowels the more you use the better the repair will be..

You did the best thing by asking the question before starting, well done.

It's not a difficult job but it can be messy so try and be methodical and clean up any spills before they get onto places you don't want it on. I drew a diamond pattern onto the floor in the areas where it needed attention, that way you can make sure the process is uniform throughout. The chances are that you will find new areas need doing later on so keep all the dowels and resin in a safe place for then.
