Hi and welcome to the forum.
I havn't removed a battery box but I hane done a toilet door the mastic seal should be exactly the same. After removing any screws, carefully ease the mastic away from the side with something like a paint stripping knife after softenibg it a bit with white spirit. Try not to scratch any paint off so a worn and rounded blade is best. The sealant will go a bit like chewing gum and ease gaps around the edge. Once out, wipe it all clean with fresh white spirit and then methylated spirit, it will clean off the white residue left by the white spirit and leave the surface nice and clean for the new mastic strip and the new box.
