Beginning to lose the will to live this morning, been phoning around tyre fitters trying to find one who even knows what a Tyron Band is let alone can deal with them!

No need for lectures/comments on the need for them or otherwise, it's a rock solid fact, my van came with them fitted, and I have to live with that like it or not (don't like it much at the moment) !

Only trying to do an age related tyre swap, but even Kwik Fit who proudly boast on their web site they are fully equipped and trained to cope with Tyron Bands on caravan wheels greet you with "don't know anything about those, never dealt with them" when you speak with a depot!

When you ask and they haven't a clue, you know you might just as well hang up, it isn't going to get any better, just move on, trouble is I'm now exhausting options in the locality of my stored caravan!

Anyone got any actual experience of a tyre fitter in or around Welwyn Garden City who can deal with Tyron Bands? Don't need lists of tyre fitters in general, or 'try here' suggestions, I've likely already been there, looking for somewhere that can DEFINITELY do them!

Not sure if you've tried this or not, but get in touch with some local caravan dealers and ask who they recommend.
If anyone should know it would be them.

If it was me I would also drop Kwik Fit an email and ask for them to tell you depots near by that are experienced, if they say they all are I would challenge that.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

blueexpo97, thanks for the notion, but not really any caravan dealers nearby, and one of only two about 30 odd miles away I wouldn't get involved with again anyway!

Made some progress after much waiting in queues on Kwik Fit's customer service line! After speaking with a few people, it seems their mobile fitters 'should' be able to cope with Tyron bands, but not necessarily their depots! An additional charge of £10 per tyre is charged for the extra time needed to fit new tyres, so tyres now looking rather expensive as Kwik Fit not cheapest in first place!

Now pondering, do I knock up a DIY version (quite within my skill set) of the Tyron fitting tool (commercial one at £80 can't be bought anywhere it seems, even if I was inclined to buy!), and remove the cursed things for myself to save probably nearly £40 this time on new tyres, and a shed load of aggravation and expense in the future when no doubt they will be even less common and more difficult to deal with (must revisit and add to another post where someone enquired about getting new tyres fitted abroad when Tyrons fitted! - some hope!!!!). Without them, I can go for most competitive and convenient tyre supplier! Thinking £40 saving goes a long way towards Tyre Pressure Monitoring System that is probably better for early warning of problems and better than relying on a fully deflated tyre not actually coming off the rim thanks to the Tyron Band! - I'd be surprised if a fully deflated tyre moving on the rim didn't do substantial damage to my van, as tyres a VERY snug fit in wheel arch anyway!

GT Towing at Welham Green is not very far from Welwyn Garden City. They are the caravan dealers we bought our current 'van from.

I've been using a mobile tyre fitter for the past few years for both my caravan and the car. He is well aware of Tyron Bands being fitted on caravan wheels as he not only has the tools for the job but doesn't charge any extra either for regular customers. Kwik-Fit like other tyre specialists know how to proceed with caravan tyres fitted with Tyron Bands as it comes with their training but they don't want the hassle involved so the simple answer is to say that they know nothing about them.

Modern tyres are reliable enough. As long correct load rating fitted & they are replaced every 5 yrs then I cannot really see the point of Tyron bands.
