Hi guys the back & side panel of my hobby caravan are spongy been like this since I got the van 10 years ago , now theres no water ingress but I’m thinking of removing the rail and reattaching the panels to the solid body underneath ? Do u think the screws are rotten and the heads have come away hence the panels are spongy to touch ? I have used mastic to run around the rail up until now but feel if I remove the plastic bezel (moulded beading ) would it be just removing the old jointing mastic cleaning with clutch and break cleaner so I’m not removing the paint from the panels with a (turps type cleaner) remove old sealant smear a bed of sikaflex and re drill new screws into solid body reattach rail and replace plastic bezel to solidify the panels together ???have any of you guys tried this it would be much appreciated if you could give me your advice regarding this matter !!!! That’s so much
Blaze
Ps as I’ve said I’ve had the caravan 10 years no water ingress it’s a year 2000 model so 20 years old would rather the back & side panel were solid thanks again

We’ll i done the job I asked for quotes to carry out the work , they were talking telephone numbers 😉I undone the screws and removed the rail next the rubber gasket and the old but very sticky mastic, cleaned it all up not the easiest getting the old mastic off the gasket ( hobby no longer supply the gasket it is nearly 22 years old ) I had to replace some of the wood structure then stitched it back together replacing the threaded rod on the handles it was rusted , re done the mastic reattached the rail , it’s solid now !!!! ,not going to lie once you start there’s no going back and it’s a bit of a job but it’s done 😉

Maybe get another 22 years use out of it now! Well done.
