Hi folks ,just got a new to me caravan , the Carver water heater is heating up the water in the tank, the tank is hot, but only cold coming out of the taps "!!Any ideas?
I don't know how long you left the tap running but it can take a while to come through if there is a long pipe run. There will be cold water lying in the pipe from the tank to the taps. Alternatively Navver is probably right.
Just a thought, has someone plumbed the taps the wrong way round?
Try running the cold tap and see what happens.
Sorry, can't think of anything else.

thanks for the replies folks, having trawled the web I think its a sticky non return valve BUT can I get the old one out !!! its proving to be a little difficult to say the least
If you have recently emptied the hot water tank it could be an airlock. You could try emptying and refilling the tank. This has worked for me in the past.

Not sure if you have an onboard tank system or whether it all comes in from an aqua roll. If onboard tank there will be a pump to pump from the tank to the tap.
If aquaroll then you need to bleed the pipes all the way from the pump through the water heater and on to the tap. You do this before switching on the water heater. Turn the hot water tap on and you will get loads of air out of the hot tap. Keep this going for a few minutes until you get a steady flow then do the same at all other hot taps.
Only then switch the water heater on.
Do you have a microswitch system or a pressure switch.
Those non-return valves are an absolute swine to get out, in fact they usually break if you try. However, if the non-return valve was stuck it is unlikely you would get any water out. Cold water needs to come in through the non-return valve to the hot water tank in order to push hot water out of the tank to the taps. If the tank is hot but you have cold water flowing from the hot tap it sounds to me like someone has messed with the pipework, as in theory that is impossible. It will happen initially as there will be cold water lying in the pipe, but it shouldn't take 5 minutes, more like 20-30 seconds.
Hi Colin, thanks for the advice, the other reason I think it may be the non return valve is that I get no water from the drain plug, do you think that might be the cause, I'm trying not to have to remove it as it almost certainly snap !
now i'm wondering if someone has changed the pipes over where should the hot water, red, pipe attach to the heater on mine the blue pipe is attached to the non return valve then goes to the top of the heater, surely the red pipe should connect there and the blue pipe goes to the filler side i.e. where the water comes in ?
