Hi All, during our latest excursion, I had the battery compartment door open and hanging down when the jockey wheel collapsed. This has smashed the door and hinges on both the door and the insert.
I've been looking for a replacement but I'm not having much luck. The caravan is a Fleetwood Heritage 530/3 and the current box is a Thetford battery box, model 26942. I have searched for this but not looking good. What I wanted to ask is does anyone know if battery boxes are interchangeable/universal? Any information would be very helpful so thank you in advance and all have a great season.
I would imagine they are much of a muchness.
I would take the dimensions and then trawl through Google images, this will give you a better idea of what's available.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Have a look at BCA Group's catalogue at this link here, at pages 38 and beyond. They make quite a few battery boxes anongst other bits and pieces cor caravans and motorhomes. They give dimentions of the boxes so you may be lucky in finding one for your size. You could always ring them if not, perhaps they could point you in the right direction.

When the catch failed (actually the attachment points on the door) on my battery locker, I had a devil of a job identifying the correct replacement door, they all look alike, but have subtle differences which never seem to be specified! - Hinges, lock type etc. Even when narrowing down manufacturer, there don't appear to be identifying part numbers on the items (replacement came with a paper label!) which help with which variant!
Many come without the panel in the door (which is colour matched to the van walls), which is either extra or you are expected to salvage from old door (easier said than done as bonded in, and difficult to remove without damage!).
I got there eventually, but it was NOT straightforward! Like you, my caravan manufacturer was no longer in business to ask any assistance of, so very much DIY research.
I suspect that replacing entire locker and door is less trouble as at least they will match! Think the sizes are pretty standard, but the fixing holes may need redrilling to suit, and don't assume you can transfer lock barrel to new locker door to keep uniform key for all locks, you may end up with a different one for battery box. Ensure what you purchase comes with a lock barrel, otherwise probably more expense and trouble matching the right one to fit!
And brace, brace, brace, for the cost, they are not cheap!
Breakers yard for a s/h one may be an option, but some caution, old plastic gets brittle, so risk of damage in both removal and refitting.
