My fridge gets cold on gas but not on 12v or 240, the pipes
get hot but no cooling in fridge, i read that if you turn fridge over for 24hours it might cure the problem ,but as its working on gas i'm assuming the liquid is moving about OK , any ideas folks..btw its been standing for 2/3 years
12v doesn't cool the fridge, it will only keep a pre-cooled fridge cool.

As stated, 12 volts will not cool, certainly to no significant degree. If it is not cooling on 240 volt (that can take some time) then it is possible the 240 volt element has failed and in need of replacement. This was a task our service engineer had to do on our caravan fridge a couple of years ago.

Context… Our fridge did not get cold on EHU in winter a few years ago; on a site where we were on a pitch on a side spur road with most of the other folks on site (frustrating when the rest of the site was empty). No ice for the G&T - disaster! Once we got home, the fridge functioned as normal. So, in very simple terms, it seems there was x amount of e-juice available on that side spur.

You're correct.
It is the case that there is voltage drop in all cables which are carrying current. As the power being converted to cooling is voltage times current It means there is less power available.
By putting all the caravans on one part of the field they were causing all the power to those vans to flow through the same cable resulting in more voltage drop.
Usually the 230 volt element is around 120 watts but the 12 volt element is typically only 50 watts so yes the cooling is less effective.
I bought a free standing absorption fridge recently and had it on 12 volt for the drive home of about 1.5 hours. It was cold when I got home.
update, took fridge out turned it upside down for 24 hours, could hear gurgling, turned it right way up , turned on using 240 mains got cold within half an hour, in fact freezer was showing -13 degrees! Put it all back together, what an awkward job!, and now no cooling on elec! Any experts out there got any ideas? I'm thinking thermostat perhaps
Caravan fridges are absorbsion types normally, that means it heats the internal liquid into a vapour which rises and on cooling down returns to a liquid that perculates through small capilliaries to the bottom to start the sequence again. Turning it upside down removes air pockets and hopefully debris fron the internal tubework, hence the gurgling noise.
If it worked fine for a bit afterwards I would suspect that there is a fair bit of gunk in the systen blocking the flow again. Unlike a compressor fridge there is no pump, it relys purley on gravity and is sealed.

Thanks Dave, I shuffled it around a bit on Sunday upside down, on its side etc left it for few hours , working fine left it running all day yesterday ,all working fine , put it back in the hole again this morning aargh!! Now not working on elect again !!! getting a bit pi**sed of with it now , maybe its had its day
I give up , still not working , now what to do , buy a second hand one or go for a small domestic fridge/freezer..not bothered about running on gas at all
The trouble buying like for like is it may be nearly as bad as the original if same age. If you have the room for it, a domestic compressor fridge will be cheaper than a new caravan fridge which are extorsionately expensive and work better. Only drawback may be the slight noise occasionally when working. Often fridges are located over a wheel arch so an additional design complication if applicable.
