I have removed a delaminated nearside front window. Has anyone managed to remove the metal clamp running along the top edge that holds the window to the rail fixed on the front of the van?
Or do I need to clean re bond with this in place?
Any tips on cleaning substance. I have WC105 for bonding.
Hi, not removed one by choice but did have a window come out of metal clamp when one of the kids tried to shut the window without releasing window stay. There is a rubber seal folded over window then metal strip is pushed on. Had to use washing up liquid on seal and trim to get it back together which was all I had at the time as we were away and it was night time. So if you give it a good soak with a lubricant like silicone you may be able to carefully ease it off. Be aware that the trim is only on the one skin of window at this point so at a weak point and once its been off may not be as tightly clamped when you get it back on ours isnt quite as tight now its been off once.
what van is it?
is the front window recessed?
if it is recessed ,like mine are then i had to undo the screws securing the metal strip to the van , and ease the strip away from the van to enable the complete window and top mounting rail to be slid out to the side.
there wasnt enough room to lift the window up to fully open to release the strip as the window was fouling the top of the recess.
refitting is a reversal
as this was such a pain, when the other window also delaminated, i rebonded it in situ,
use the correct bonding stuff, not like i did with (sticks like sh*t), it cracked the window
