After trouble free running on electric, our water heater suddenly refuses to run off electric. It runs fine on gas though. At first we thought we might have burnt out the element as we forgot to close the valve with the yellow switch so the heater was empty and switched on. I would have expected it to fuse or trip out though and can't understand why it will still work on gas if this is the case. Apologies if there is another thread elsewhere on this subject - I did check the last 9 pages before posting. Any help is appreciated!

Hi,

I had this Problem,I asked my service engineer to come out and Have a look,

I was doing things in the Wrong Order.

Switching the Ultrastore on before running the water through was my Problem.

His Solution was to fill the water tank as Normal,Run the water through, only through the Hot Tap setting,When the water is running freely, without any air locks,Then switch the Ultrastore on.I thought the Hot water would be Instant,It took about 45 mins to an Hour to get very Hot.The Engineers exact words was "Operator Error"

Hope this helps,I am a new Caravanner, hope this all makes sense to you.It certainly solved my problem.

Cheers

Stu

Quote from Ultrastore manual:

  • If the water heater is inadvertently operated empty the caravan will trip out. To reset, turn off 5 and 10 amp trips, turn off RCD consumer unit, then fill with water and turn 5 amp trip back on.
  • The excess temperature thermostat will cut in on the heater on 230V if there is a fault. It will also reset if disconnected from the mains. However this may not happen if there is no water in the tank.

So, assuming you've been off EHU, the system should have become reset.
Have you checked the fuse in the local supply switch and double checked the MCB's in the consumer unit too. Sometimes these trip and it's not obvious as the trip switch will flick to a mid-way position and the switch needs putting to 'off' before it will engage to 'on' again.

It is still possible of course that the element has failed, but double check all mains supplies first.

My problem is a US 103 combi..where there is a electricity/plastic burning smell, and the water just gets hotter and hotter.
I've drained and flushed twice, but still have the same problem

Is this a failed thermostat/ heating element..and can I replace it, or is this a new full heater unit replacement + fitter costs?

I have a bessacarr E410 2011 the water heater only works on gas. I can't find any reset button on the heater, the light is on for water heater on main panel.so not sure if is the fuse
Could the problem be the element.

The only way to test is with a multimeter.

Hi all, the Truma ultrastore heater element has packed up, it is the 450watt element which is not available anymore.
Can anyone tell me if 850watt element for later model water heater will physical fit into the earlier model water heater.
Thank in anticipation.
Martin.
