hi we just got our first caravan a few weeks ago and i want to brighten it up with new curtains. Can anyone give me any hints on the easiest way to sew on popper tape? will an ordinary household sewing machine be suitable? do i need to use heavy duty needles? need to be doing something to cure my impatience til we get away on our first outing in our marauder.

Hi, I just used my household sewing machine to sew the new popper tape in place just take it slowly to see if yours can cope. I bought new tape at Dunelm, use your old curtains for measurements good luck  I'm sure you will be fine.

I have used a denim needle in the past, and will be again shortly, also depending on the width of the plastic on your tape, you might need to use the zipper foot.

I used the zipper foot on my machine and took my time - if you have a little spare it might be worth having a play with it.

You can use ordinary needles - might be better than a heavy weight one unless you are using heavy material.

Best of luck - hope they turn out well - having just done mine throughout and I am well pleased

Probably a good idea to let the sewing machines motor have time to cool down inbetween each curtain, i did manage to burn a machines motor out in the past making a set of curtains for my old Avondale. Not all domestic machine motors have the same power, you will just have to see how yours copes, and the slightest smell of burning stop imediatly and allow the motor time to cool down.

Always use denim needles to sew on popper tape, especially as it's also going through blackout lining and the curtain material.

My wife made new curtains only a few weeks ago  Unable to sow the plastic popper tape on to the curtains, she used curtain lining tape about 1" wide. This tape already has a small slot to push  the plastic popper threw.
