when you drill a hole this weakens the panel slightly and the hole could crack or craze.

Oops - good point. I'll leave the pads on that the dealer fitted then - they are the thick polystyrene types for n/plates

thank you every-one for your advice- we got some very heavy velcro so it is wait & see but it is heavy duty & seems to be strong--(we dont have a rear window) thanks again Lilian

We buy the adhesive pads from Towsure (75p each) and have never had a problem - except removing the number plate when we changed the fc!!

Sticky backed velcro. Wouldn't consider using anything else on a caravan for number plates.

If you use double sided tape don't stick it the length of the plates, as this doesn't allow for thermal expansion, but do 3 bits across the narrow width. 1 at each end and 1 in the middle.
