Hi Decho- Yes, I've got the same problem with my 540 - might try the sponge sometime. Incidentally, I removed the spray nozzles from both taps for a much better flow - spray was too high pressured!

I have a Bailey wyoming and the pumps are noisy, i made a piece of plywood and mounted the pump on this, it made a big difference also check that the rubber mounting pads are in good condition.
Yes they do occasionally kick in during the night just to maintain the correct water pressure this is quite normal
