oh don't worry about that, I know exactly how you feel!!
PS, just noticed your car which is the same as mine, does it pull your van in 6th below 60mph??
Hi Mate, mines on an 05 plate with 115K miles and it pulls like a tug.
The only time i've had to drop a gear, is climbing over Shap Fell, with my van fully laden for a seasonal stay and a strong headwind.
Bought it at 3yr old with 70k miles and apart from a broken front spring, the week after i bought it and the rear silencer on the original exhaust burning through at the welded joint and dropping off !, which i had sleeved and welded 2yrs ago (still fine) , and 5000 mile oil and filter changes, i've never touched it., i've been well pleased with it.
Towed my last van (swift challenger 550). with a2001 tddi 115ps ghia, of the same model and while it had less punch than the 2.2, felt a more stable towcar.
Suspension setup maybe ? , or maybe just me
I love these old Mk3's, but not the new model, call me an old fuddy duddy, but a mate had the new model, a 140ps titanium on a 59 plate, with 30k miles, a main dealer purchase.
It drove very well, but i found it too big, poorly finished and it developed electrical gremlins, you'd associate with a cheap 1990's Korean bargain car.
He sold it and has an insignia estate now and loves it, i must admit, it feels far more solid, but i think i'll stick to what i've got !
Thank you, strange but almost identical history to mine, 55 plate though and mine was Ford owned for a year. New discs/pads all round and rear silencer in my first,(4th overall), year, also change my oil/filters early due to overall low yearly mileage.
Just gone straight through it's 4th MOT without fault, bar a headlamp bulb! and started off around 74k when I got it but now 103K on the clock.
I looked at mk4's and think like you, no character! plus good examples of these 2.2's are holding their price?
As for towing, I've got 18" low profile tyres and being an estate, self leveling rear suspension, tows like a dream!
I've now sussed my problem with poor tugging in 6th, van brakes were sticking a bit!
You've got the one i should have got !, i've got 2 x 8yr old Labradors, who live on covers, in the back seats, the estate version would have given them a nice kennel.
Think i'll stick to my 17" wheels , looking at tyre prices these days!.
I always get my wear out of my cars, keeping them for 8yrs or so, i don't follow car fashion and always think, if it isn't broke, don;t fix it, so tend ot keep the car original.
I wouldn't know what to look at for my next car, as you seem to buy into dealership depenency, with all modern cars today.
I'm thinking of going backwards , a 1,9 or 2.2 cdti vectra for example. unless someone can put me off ??
A Ford man through and through, current one is the 11th, I had an 85 mk4 Escort Estate for 13yrs, bought it at 3yr old with 80k and ran it round the clock 3 times! on the original engine...one replacement head and two gearboxes!!
No, not poor gear changing, I pulled a 25cwt trailer all over the country... which was more than the car weighed!!
Thanks guys for the info, on holiday in Beadnell bay club site and my Truma Ultraheat stopped blowing hot air on the electric side, switched to gas and all was fine.
Searched the web and found this very informative forum, done the usual and checked fuses etc, checked for reset button but couldn't find one, pulled the relay out and refitted and got the good old click, will order a new one when I get home.
Have you guys got a favourite ( non foreign)site too order parts from.
Thank you all for the info.....feelin warm again lol
We also have a problem with our s3002 heating. Works on gas fine. Will work for a short while on electronic and then it starts blowing cold air. Anyone have any advice?
Hi Emma, we had a coachman pastiche with the same problem as you describe. First we got a mobile caravan fitter to check the heating and he found a fault with the control dial switch (with the 500, 1000 and 2KW heat settings), which is a silver disc about the size of a 10p. He replaced that and charged about £70 for the fitting and supply back in 2016. Then I replaced the remote temperature override sensor which I bought from here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323783150028?rmvSB=true
There is a full article on the Truma heater on the page if you scroll down. Hope this is of help, Barry
