A little update

I have had a few trips away and the blinking toilet flush is still playing up and working intermittently. I have taken it apart underneath the flush tank to get at the electrical parts, using a meter i have now found the fault the fuse holder is corroded! this can only be seen by removing the switch unit.

I will post some pictures when I make the repair.

1Wow incredible thread  We too are buffing up and polishing an older van for our own use I wish we had thought of taking some before and after photo's. We haven't got as fare as you but are hoping too. I think our old van gives us far more pleasure than a new one ever would. The joy of turning it into a gleaming pleasure to look at can't be beaten.

I like your damp meter its much easier to read than ours where did you get it from?

hi there ive had a leak on my roof which i sorted with some resin. this was done some two years ago. i checked the roof with a damp meter and all was well as i thought, i put a cover over the van last winter just to be sure when i looked in the wardrobe i noticed the wall about six inches down a little soft and the roof wet, im now having to put new boarding on the roof and do a small repair job on the wall this week end, as far as i can tell the holes on the roof have been filled ok still sound and the roof is dry so as you can see if water gets into your roof its must be very hard for it to dry out as it sealed in, so would advice you to keep checking with a damp meter good photos ged

Thank you for your comments. I do keep checking her over with the damp meter (which i got from ebay lots on there). When I used the de-humidifier I wedged open a gap between the roof and the sky lights then sealed all the vents with plastic and tape and ran the de-humidifier untill it was not removing any more water so I am hoping I got it all.

The satisfaction is days like today when I am sat in the van at a UKCS meet in the Isle of Wight. Most of the things I have done are not visible or they just make thing more reliable, but they were so worth while, like now for example the wind is really blowing but it is snug and warm in here after doctoring some excessive air vents (do not block the gas ones! under the fridge cooker and water heater)

A lot of jobs I have not bothered recording for example there was a serious draught blowing up from the gas locker and coming out under the front windows right where you sit. Cure for this is a tin of expanding builders foam and a long pipe fixed to the nozzle, working from inside the locker run the foam round to seal the large gap, then cut away clean with a knife when it has cured. Again this is not visible and takes just a few minutes but what a difference inside the van.

I have had several brand new caravans and motorhomes (cant afford them now) and have still had to make the minor tweaks that I have done for this one. I just dont like things that dont work.
