I need to replace the A frame over-run damper on my Compass Rally, my local dealer has quoted me 60 quid to supply a new one! I find this hard to beleive as a PAIR of new dampers for quite a few modern cars would probably cost half of that. Anyone got any idea where I could source a damper at a realistic price?

Hi
They are expensive, because it's for a caravan. they catch us every time. You could try these people, not quite as costly http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/caravan/chassis/Al-ko_chassis_parts/Al-ko_Hitch_damper.aspx

I should add that I went back to my local dealer prepared to pay his ransome price only to find out that he did not have the proper damper in stock and that he could not even order the proper one for me.

Simplicity itself dexyblue, take out rear circlip, remove pin, unbolt front fixing bolt and remove damper!, fitting is just the reverse, but you do have to force the new damper back in order to get the front fixing bolt in.
Cheers,
Paul.
