It depends upon the amount of power you expect to use.  Solar panels are silent, fairly easy to transport, but give a very small output relative to size of panel.  Generators are fairly heavy, the quietest ones extremely expensive, and there is always the chance of falling foul of a neighbouring camper regarding noise and/or fumes from exhaust.

Before deciding, I would also explore the small wind turbine market.

My Honda Eu20i was £500 off Ebay, like new, and is very very quiet, emits no detectable fumes, and whacks out 2KW of lovely juicy mains power.

It can be flogged for £500 anyday, and costs very little to run.

Whats more, Solar panels can go wrong, while Honda genny's don't if you maintain them carefully, and when I sell the camper, the Genny stays with me!

Tell you what though, it makes you realise how much juice some things use! ...
