We went to the CC national meet and, after registration, went straight to the Whale stand and told them of our very noisy pump. Within a couple of hours two very nice Irish gentlemen arrived at my van saying that it would be the way I primed the system and maybe a slight adjustment here and there. Two and half hours later they accepted that my pump was faulty and indeed that the problem was inherent in the way the thing had been assembled as apparently two of four diaphragms were smaller than the other two. This, after a slow, section by section dismantleling of the complete unit. Eventually they replaced the main, upper part of the pump, changed the inlet hose for one with a smaller bore and replaced the left hand tap which controls the water flow to the on-board tank. They were meticulous in the way they carried out the job and said that although they had heard of the complaints about noise mine was the first pump that they had actually had brought to them for examination and repair. By the time they had finished the noise from the pump was just a murmur and, with seat down and cushions in place was almost
inaudible. Fantastic! So, the noise was not normal, quite the opposite, and it was not the case of a caravanner being used to an external pump refusing to get used to change. Now it may not be the same fault with all those noisy pumps out there but get it checked out just in case. Oh, and by the way, the new series 6 has the water flow options controlled by electronics rather than those silly handles and they have installed an automatic cut-off in the on board tank when it is full.

Very interesting, thank you. We were also told that it was just noisy as the pump was inside. Neighbours on the campsite have commented on the noise. Its actually on our fault list and we're just trying to book the van in for the third time. Glad to have this info.in advance.
Eddy, they left it in the vertical posotion but removed the top half and replaced it followed by the tap and hose replacements. And believe you me the pump is nigh on perfect now.

We are currently aware of noisy pumps within the range, advise on this problem is to move the pump from horizontal to vertical with the tested removal of the surge damper.
I rang Whale about our noisy pump, in our Bailey Indiana, and I was told to send a cheque for £25 made payable to some engineering company, and we then received our new modified pump within a week, we booked it into a Bailey dealers who fitted it free of charge, the new pump still makes a noise, but it least it doesn't wake you up!
Just to update everyone, Whale Pumps is just our brand name our name is Munster Simms Engineering Ltd.
The £25 is not just for a modified pump, It is a complete upgrade of the watersystem. Bailey will fit this free of charge, just give us a call and we will send you out a form to fill in and all relevant information, then you send it back and the process begins.
If you were to urgrade this system without this it would cost approx £200, so £25 is not a bad price for a complete new water system.
It sounds like its just building the pressure back up again, what you can try is under the QA label there is a small stud with an alan key adjustment, you can try moving it anti-clockwise a quarter turn and see if this helps, bear in mind which way it was beforehand and memorise the position to turn it back if this doesn't help as it is set at different pressures. Failing that i would suggest a Surge Damper (http://www.whalepumps.com/caravan_RV/product_list/16/75/) let me know how you get on?
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
