Hi there please can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong.
When we turn the water pump on it won't turn off again , now i know about the pressure switch thingy that has to be turned slightly but we either end up with a constant clicking for about 10 - 20 secs before if turns off (very annoying) or the thing just wont turn off.
We are turning the screw quite literally only 1 millimeter at a time so why can't we find a middle point.
I've checked the swift handbook but it doesn't come up with anything new to try.
With a pressure operated system if you are running the water slowly you will get a clicking as the pump goes on and off, but this should only be while the water is actually running. Do you mean your pump runs on for 10-20 seconds, clicking, after you turn off the tap?
On ours, if it is turned too low the flow of water is very poor, but we have not had the pump running on as you seem to have had.
Are you adjusting while on hook up, or just on battery? The setting usually needs to be altered depending on which you are on.
Hi i had the same problem ,i had a crack in the filter mounting and the water was leaking slightly out of there, causing the pressure to drop so we had to use the switch to turn the pump off, have a look outside at the filter mounting and see if its leaking at all hope this helps .
I have to admit it took me ages to find that point where the clicking stopped. Just when I thought I got it right and put all the seating back the next time we used a tap it would do it again. For me it was just endless adjusting that finally sorted it.
I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, and it turned out to be a small piece of plastic that had broken off the inlet end of the pump and was sucked in. It got stuck at the diaphram on the pressure switch, preventing the flow of water being completely cut off. I found a series of photos that helped on Wizards website, showing exactly how to dismantle and reassemble the pressure switch, and it worked perfectly after I had removed the offending piece of plastic (about the size of a pin head!) Click the link below......and I hope this helps.
Turn on isolation switch to operate pump.If the pump doesn't work turn the knob on the pressure switch clockwise until it does.
Open taps to clear air in system, turn taps off.
With the pump running and taps off, turn the knob on the pressure switch anticlockwise until the pressure switch "clicks" and the pump switches off.
Open the cold tap, the pump should come on within one second with a single click. If it doesn't, turn the knob on the pressure switch clockwise slightly until it does.Close the tap, The pump should switch off, try again.
Try the hot tap, it should come on within seven seconds, it it doesn't turn the knob on the pressure switch clockwise slightly until it does.Close the tap, The pump should switch off within seven seconds, try again.
With a good pressure switch and using these steps above the pump should work when you want it and stop when you want it to.
If it Doesn't
If it doesn't there could be one or all of four problems
If the pressure switch keeps clicking turning the pump on and off,and you have noticed black bits comming out of the tap, the filter has broken, needs to be replaced and the pressure switch needs to be cleaned out.
The diaphram has split in the pressure switch and the pressure switch needs to be replaced.
If it dosen't work at all check the 12v supply to it.
Check the microswitch inside the pressure switch, (the most unlikley)
if the non return valve in the pump fitting is holed no amount of adjustment will stop it clicking and needs replacment.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We tried the methods suggested but still couldn't get it to work so we have had to take it into the workshop. It turns out that where you plug the whale pump into the outside of the van - the non return valve was broken and it was letting air in so therefore had to be replaced. No amount of fiddling would cure it. Just so that anyone else with this problem is aware.
We took it to a place in Chesterfield (Derbyshire) where they did it straight away for us and only charged £20 so if you live this way it might be worth checking out (and they service vans for £106 + vat ) seems reasonable.
