Please help - due to illness haven't been able to use the van this year and when we went to visit her in storage we discovered that the tyres definitely look sad. In fact one was very white on the wall. We've has the caravan two years and I guess the tyres are well old (she's 13) but we were sited and never towed. Anyway hoping to get away soon but not with those tyres. How do I go on about replacing and how much will it cost? I rang a man who services vans and he quoted me about 150.00. Surely it can't be that hard - or can it?

About 2 years ago I replaced both tyres on my previous van. We had arrived on site on the Friday night and on the Saturday morning the sun was at such an angle that I noticed something like a bulge on one of the tyres, as it turns out it was a deep cut and I knew it would be madness to travel home with it in that condition.
I rang a local quick fit (or something like that) and checked they had tyres of the correct commercial rating. Luckily I had a jack and axle stands in car so took off both wheels and took them to the depot.
Two new tyres fitted and balanced for £70
So shop around, unless of course it's a twin axle you have in which case it sounds like a good deal!!!!!
ATS quoted me about 35-40 quid a piece, a jack, a pair of axle stands and whip the wheels off yourself, chuck them in the boot and drive to your local tyre outlet. If a small C rated tyre you may need to ring them beforehand to pre-order, usually a next day affair
I believe it is recommended to change tyres on vans after about 5 years due to perishing.
We had an Abbey for about 7 years and found cracking and a cut in one tyre, the other had a puncture so both were replaced, the spare was fine- living in the dark under the van.
We had to order them as they were the reinforced type used on vans/light trucks.

I changed my original 6ply for 8ply tyres. I phoned avondale about it. & they said to put another 4 to 6psi more in them. Then it says in the hand book. It says 42 in the hand book. they said 46 to 48psi.
