Sorted it the best its going to be. I had to wrap the shower pipes in pipe insulation, to keep them away from the wall sides. Its now much quieter and all you can hear is the pump itself.
Trouble is, you can become obsessive about it and want the pump silent too.
For what its worth, I tried both pumps tonight and the modifed one isn't a great deal quieter. It is a bit, but not a huge amount.
I was getting to the point where I was ready to convert it to a submersible pump. It was that bad!
Spent this afternoon fitting a complete Whale 'Aqua-Smart' system in our van and at first it made a hell of a racket!!
This system I have is all mounted on a board, the instructions say screw the mounting board to the floor firmly but I found if I lifted the whole thing off the floor it ran very quietly but once back on the floor the racket returned?.
I have a mains water inlet with a solenoid valve to shut it off, my problem was some water was getting through the shut valve but making the pump vibrate as it struggled to pull it through, this inturn was vibrating the board against the floor hence the racket. Once I open the valve and allowed the pump all the water it wanted, it then became as quiet as a door mouse and it's not been screwed down yet!!
So in general, if there is any restriction to the input then it's going to make the pump vibrate. Whale's filter in the Aquaroll if blocked is one possible reason as is a lot of tight 'elbow bends' in the pipe leading to the pump. Equally restricted flow to the taps must have a similar effect and again tight elbow bends restrict flow.
Last problem I have is it 'hunting' on and off every 15 seconds when everything is supposedly off? I ran out of time and decided to switch it off at the pump switch until needed. It could be a leak but I don't think so and the battery's fine....any ideas???
Hi Gary, i have the same problem, checked everything, i have an on board water tank, fill it with a normal pump from an aqua roll, whe the o.b, tank is full it runs out through an overflow pipe, i then pull out the pump from the filler socket, noticed this w.e. that i could hear air coming out of the filler socket, there is a small mushroom type none return valve in the filler socket, ( which comes in a kit ) will get one this week, fit it next w.e. and see if that is the problem, let you know how i get on,
Not my problem directly mate, that's how my old system worked, my new system uses the onboard pump for filling the internal tank through a system of solenoid valves, all I do is flick a switch to 'fill tank'!!
Mind you, I filled the tank the first time with no problem but second time last night...nothing??. My old inlet system I've kept, it uses a 'Hoselok' type connector outide and the new connector I bought had a non-return valve in it... but facing the wrong way!!....must have been jammed open the first time but it fooled me for ages
As far as I can tell once the tanks full and switch set to use 'inboard tank', it should shut the solenoide valve to outside so nothing gets through.
Not sure how your pump is mounted but I fixed a similair annoying problem in a friend caravan by undoing the pump mounting screws and then putting them back in with a rubber washer between the van and the pump, it did quieten it down a bit. Same sort of thing is used on PC hardrives to reduce noise.
Please note that this was on a much older caravan and not the aquasmart type.

Anyway you've given me a thought thank you
Isn't that the way of things Gary, wish I had a pound for everytime I had what appeared to be a major problem turn out to be something simple like that!

Especially when repairing/building computers.
Could not agree more Papa Pip, it was from building and fixing computers that I learnt 'logical' fault diagnoses and a wonderful foundation course for caravan appliance fault finding!!
Computers was also the origin for the name for my company?
PS, thanks for recommending your friend the other week although at first I hadn't a clue who he said you were....who?!
