wondering if any of you technical minded peeps out there have any suggestions on this one.

Mains trips out .

Main switch on consumer unit goes off but all 3 mcbs are still on.

If we turn off mcb 3 (fridge /charger) mains stays on (trips out even if fridge and charger are turned off).

 A few hours later try turning mcb3 on again, hey ho everything works.

This is the second time this sequence of events has happened,  we took the van out in october it did this too, only this time when we turned mcb3 back on everything tripped out for 2 days then came back again.

This intermittant problem is driving us nuts as we never know if are going to have electric or not and are going away for 8 days soon.

 Also the Battery charge state indicator dial does not work unless you push on the cover of it (loose connection behind I assume) could this be relevant?

I think I have it, while the wiring to fridge/charger is connected it will still trip the rcd.

You need to be competent to do this but the fridge and charger need to be totally disconnected including the earth at the control box end before you can determine which one is causing it, or if it's the mcb itself.

I hope it is something small to fix. problem is no workshops can fit us in til may at the earliest.

Your fridge must be tripping the RCD so there will be a fault somewhere. It is there to protect against faults!

 There is usually a 240v socket somewhere that the fridge plugs into, possibly in a cupboard.If  Worth getting an electrician to check it out for safety.
