Have just taken the caravan out of winter storage and whilst checking everything over discovered that the thetford cassette toilet is not flushing, changed the fuse but still no joy, any suggestions?
Is it one with its own flush water tank, or one that takes water from the vans system?
If it is the one with its own tank then its a reasonable chance its just the pump impeller stuck due to standing dry for a while. This can usually be freed. The way in depends on the model.
If it's the type with the toilet roll holder sunk in the water tank it is easy to access it, The holder cannister is not fixed, it pulls out to reveal the pump. Though I cant remember the detail of how the pump is mounted it should be obvious at this stage. Possibly just a tap on the pump's case with the handle end of a screw driver will be enough to unstick it if not then using something like a tooth pick move the impeller via one of the inlet holes on its underside. Dunk it in some water just to wet it and see if it works before putting it all back.
If it does not, then it will require checking to see if its receiving electrical power before assuming a new pump is required. I doubt if it will come to that but if it does these are available together with refitting instructions. Read these before finally removing the existing pump.
There's either (if you're lucky) a loose switch in the little cubby where the waste tank goes...have a look and you'll see easily if it's loose.
Otherwise the pump simply corrodes, as the chemical you put in the water eventually "rots" the pump. That's what we had.....new pump off e-bay! it goes under the place where the toilet roll holder sits, RHS of seat as you face the loo
Had this on Avondale last season. Impeller in pump had self-destructed. Repair kit relatively cheap and easily fitted- but make sure you have proper wire-re-connection fittings and tools available, and shrink-fit insulation for your re-made connections: it's wet down there! New one woks fine.
Hi Kath, Had this problem on my beloved Buccaneer, before you start taking pump's out try pulling the casette out about 9 inches or so & then push it back quite firmly i don't know if this will work for you (it did for me ) anyway it won't cost you anything so it's worth a try, here's hoping!!!
Hi Kath I had the same problem last year, the fuse had blown & after changeing it the toilet would still not flush untill my grandson pressed the flush button half a dozen times one after another which must have freed it off maybe worth a try
Thanks to everyone, hubby is well pleased, JTQU you were absolutely spot on it was the pump impeller that was stuck, only took about two minutes for him to fix it. As usual all the advice from everyone has saved us a lot of stress and time. Cheers!
