Hi there

Would really appreciate anybody's thoughts on our problem with the main door on the caravan.  We bought it in May last year from a retailer a long way away from home and it was our first ever van.  Since we have had it the door has not really 'caught' properly - you have to really push it to lock it and then it pops open again almost immediately so that the snip is only on the shallow catch.  At first we thought that it may be our levelling or the way we were doing it - but nothing seemed to change it.  We always intended to have it serviced and have them sort it out - but long story short it has not been an option.  My question is - having looked at other posts, is it likely that if we order a new lock and try to fit it ourselves that could sort it - or could it be that the door is not hung properly?  We are unable to get it to a dealer.  Any help or advice would be really appreciated.  Thank you! (Sorry for the long post)

Lindsey

believe it or not we were looking at bailey caravans on sunday a reads caravans blackburn.looked at a senitor and could not close the door because the latch on the lock was stuck into the lock itself.the only way i could do it was to pull out the latch by hand and then it closed.think a new lock would be the order of the day, give it a good soak with WD40 first then try again, could just be dry and sticking.

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Thanks for the advice - I worry about safety - I know that anyone who really wants to get in can do - but all they have to do is lever it open ...

You really should have your caravan serviced otherwise you will invalidate the warranty and it will also affect re-sale value when you come to sell it. I am sure there must be a Bailey dealer near you somewhere who would be able to do the service and fix your door.

Why did you buy it from a dealer a long way from your home?

Because they had a cancellation and we wanted the caravan without waiting for an order.  I appreciate the information about the service but the problem we are having is that none of the dealers locally have any space until July - we foolishly did not realise how quickly they would get booked up - apparently many people book a year in advance. Lesson learned. Our other option is looking into finding a mobile servicer - but we do not keep it at home - we will investigate that.  Thanks for the advice.

Hi Lindsey, We have a problem with our Senator 6 door lock two weeks after buying the van, (we got locked out) Bailey quite happily sent me a complete new lock in the post the next day. There was also another post on here a few weeks ago with a simular problem to yours & i do know that if you inner lever is not returning to the mid position, this will cause the door not to latch properly.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that - we are really kicking ourselves that we didn't get on to it sooner - just too busy enjoying everything else about the van - I had looked at the other threads and we tried calling Bailey this morning who referred us to our retailer - then we got on to all service places within a reasonable distance and they are full and not really interested so I posted on here - it is always sure to get an answer - thanks - we will keep on investigating.  Lindsey

I would ring the dealer where you got it from & explain that you don't want to waste  anyones time in traveling any distance for what is likely to be a 5mins job, I'm sure that they would rather not have your van stuck in their workshop/yard for such a small job if they are that busy. Likewise the dealer doesnt get paid labour for warranty work so I'm sure that they would be happy to fax a warranty claim form to Bailey & get it sent direct to you. I would also point out to the dealer/bailey that a problem with these door locks have been highlighted on this forum by a number of Bailey owners.

Good Luck

Hi Lindsey,

I found the chap at Bailey very helpful & obliging i just wish i could remember his name for you. He even called me a couple of days after i had received & fitted the new lock to make sure everything was OK.
