I hope you are all well and enjoying your Bank Holiday, My Caravan Problem is as follows... I have installed a Brand new 110 amp battery into our 1992 Swift Challenger and even though the multi-meter shows 12.8v the on board battery gauge shows DEAD the 12v lights dont work. However when I connect to 240v the gauge goes into the green and all the 12v fire up. I have checked all the fuses and they all look good. Also I have found a 3amp fused switch which as far as I can see does nothing except put a little red L.E.D on.

If you switch the mains on and the 12 system works , then the 12 volt system is being powered by your charger / transformer . It does sound like the battery is not connected to the 12 volt system , i would follow the wiring from the battery testing as you go with the multi-meter , you should then find the problem .
One other thing to check , does your battery charge up when the mains is on ?

well after some 'quality time' with the wife and a Good nights sleep I returned to the 'van and after 10 mins with the Owners Handbook I found the cause of all my woe's (well nearly all) there is a 20a fuse directly off the battery and some previous owner had put in a 10a replacement this had blown on our last holiday and we had not noticed and resulted in no 12v system running off the battery. The moral of this story is READ THE BOOK
