In March we had the misfortune to have our caravan broken into; the most aggravating bit was the damage to the door rather than the few items stolen. After a bit of correspondence we have reached a reasonable settlement with our insurers and we have moved the caravan to a very high security storage compound. BUT we are still waiting for Abbey caravans to supply the door to our repairers, we have so far missed most of this season and quite frankly are beginning to wonder if it is all worth it, all we do is pay for storage and insurance, we never get away in the bl**dy thing. 3 MONTHS IS SURELY RIDICULOUS TO SUPPLY A NEW DOOR. I am going to write to Abbey stating that unless our door is supplied prior ro our booked trip to France in 4 weeks time I shall write to the caravan club informing other members of the poor service, this is an important factor in deciding which caravan to buy surely??
Biosdoctor, I must say that the tone of your reply rather offends me. I agree that it is not the manufactureres fault that my caravan was broken into but neither was it mine! I do not think it is at all unreasonable to expect a door to be available for a five year old caravan it is hardly ancient. Many people must have accidents and damage to their caravan and for your information, my repairer did come up wuth a temporary door but I do not fancy taking the caravan all the way to France in four weeks with a temporary door. For the rest of the people who replied, thank you for your courteous and helpful comments, I shall contact Lynsey, Head of Customer Services on Monday morning.
What replies, courteous and helpful comments? Surely you mean threats?
Jennifer came up with the only rational answer, ask their customer services for help.
You'll find that they will be more inclined to go that extra mile if you are courteous rather than bluster with threats of exposure to the CC or sending them bills for hired caravans.
I deal with customers daily, and nothing gives me greater pleasure than being as polite as possible to the BMW's (Bitchers Moaners and Whingers) and being as polite and HELPFUL to the reasonable ones.
I didn't mean to cause offence, just to inject a little reality into the situation.
By the way I waited more than 3 months for a fuel pump for a 3 year old Jeep.
Cheers
Paul

I have emailed customer services and I am always courteous as I find that t usually works well. Also, I run my own business and it is not good practice to keep people witing an unreasonable amount of time for what is a very simple item. I do not intend to hire a caravan and send a bill to anyone, but your attitude got right up my nose! I stored my caravan in a plce approved by my insurers and they have been very fair and helpful, it is so aggravating watching all this good weather and paying out for storage and insurance for a caravan that we cannot safely use. The temporary door is OK but not for a long trip. My children are sorely disappointed at the lack of trips away this summer so far all through no fault of ours.

The poor guy on the seasonal pitch next to us has only just arrived - 10 months to fix the damp on his Adria apparently! He is hopping mad to say the least as the seasonal pitches are not cheap for a start.
I have had amost corteous reply from the lady on the link to Abbey caravans and my door order is being followed up, so watch this space! I understand that no manufacturer of anything can keep a massive stock of every single part but surely major parts do not change that much from model to model ? Anyway, I will keep you posted thank you for your help.
I Emailed the MD of (Swift) Abbey and told him I had just bought one of their vans but I was really concerned about the after care and that I was aware of a customer who was having difficulty with their order for a new door and where now waiting in excess of three months. They told me that this order would have been despatched within one month maximum and can I give them the customers details, Of course I didn't tell them where I got my info but their reply is misleading to say the least. He is awaiting my reply
I would love to follow this up but I really is not my prob.If you me to chase this then give me the details. I will do all I can to help you.
