Fridges do not like it either too hot or too cold.
When it gets below about 8 degrees C you should fit winter vent covers. Even ordinary domestic fridges/freezers can have problems in winter if kept, for example, in a garage.
In really hot places a fan to draw the warm air away from the back of the fridge and send it out through the vent will help.
But unless your fridge insulation is extremely poor, heating your caravan in winter is not the same as being in a hot country. The gubbins of the fridge is at the back, sealed off from the inside of the van (if installed correctly), and close to the vents to the outside. It is the outside temperature that affects how well it works.
