Hi All,

Your Advice needed please,

I had my tow bar electrics changed at a tow bar fitters from  12n & 12s to the 13 pin euro plug for my new caravan!

They told me that the garage who originally fitted the tow bar have wired it wrong! Without fitting a split charge combination unit!!!

The garage are telling me that the cars wiring is right, and that the split charge combination unit is within the caravans wiring, (For all caravans built after 2006!!!!)

Any web sites or diagrams that prove the Combination relay should always be in the cars wiring would be helpful.

Advice please!

Regards,

Rob

There is a lot of good stuff about towbar electrics on the Volvo owners club website.  If you do a search, there is a bit on how to wire up e.g. an XC70 where it says a split charge relay must be fitted in the car.

Caravan wiring changed in about 1998 and vans since then have had a habitation relay.  This cuts out the permanent supply to the van internal lights, pump etc, and instead sends it to charge the battery,   I THINK!

The split charge relay is to do with not flattening the car battery it seems.

Wish I knew how to do that Wizard!!

Do you mean the web link in my post ?
If so here's how to do it , go to the website / page where the information is and right click the web address of the page , when you right click it a drop down box appears , select copy , then when you go to UKCS website and reply to the post right click the post and click paste , here's the link to this page .  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/post_message_form.asp?mode=quote&threadID=2482694&ReturnPage=Thread&ForumID=31&TopicID=163498&PagePosition=1&ThreadPage=1&ThreadPos=5
Now this link is a bit too long , so what you do is , left click at the start of the link ( make sure you hold the left mouse button on ) , now drag the curser over the link so exactly all the text is highlighted , now take your finger off the button , this should leave you with the text highlighted , now type what you want ( to get a space between words hold down the shift key and then press the minus sign key . Here's how i've changed it to a Short_link .

If you need to check out the 13 pin towing socket, I make a 12N and a 13 pin towing socket tester - email to jones-electrics at supanet.com.
