rcd tripps out when waching tv only tv and heating on and wont go on for a while then works ok for a few hours then same again cant find any thing wrong with tv or heating and no burn or smell from rcd please help any suggestions
------------- IAN avant d,i,y er try to help if i can.
This sort of thing is always difficult to trace as the fault could be in the van wiring OR in an appliance.
It is often associated with dampness as the rcd is sensitive to this. The most likely candidates then are appliances with a water heating element in.
Try this, turn off both mini circuit breakers (MCB's) next to the rcd. Unplug everything, switch off fridge, zig unit etc . With NOTHING plugged in (and everything else switched off), switch on one mcb at a time and see if it trips. If it trips now, the problem is in the van wiring. When it trips, the problem is in the one circuit that was switched on at that moment.
If it does not trip, turn on the 10A mcb and plug one appliance in at a time. If (& when) it trips, the problem is in the one and only appliance that is plugged in at this time.
If it has not tripped, switch on the 6A mcb and do the same, one at a time thing, with whatever is connected to that circuit. If & when it trips, the problem is in the only unit that was connected at that moment.
Yoy can see what I'm doing, I'm isolating everything down to one thing at a time. If & when it trips, the fault is in the only thing connected at that moment.
We had this problem was due to a faulty RCD, it got worse over time and was tripping every minute no matter what was on, you could feel the switch was really loose on the rcd got it replace and problem solved.
we have a small problem that way.if the heating is on 2000 and the water heater is on,plus tv.as soon as we put on a kettle it will trip.if we have heating on 1000 it is ok.i do not mind because it saves going for the warden.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Just a guess, but it sounds like you are tripping the 10A mcb due to overload and not the rcd.
