Is it possible to modify a caravan so it has a fixed gas tank similar to a car, then you can just fill up at a petrol station when you fill your car. Is it legal or even advisable to contemplate this mod.

I would ask why you would want to? What advantage would there be. You can buy refillable cylinders, I think Gaslow sell them.

Scares me, just to think of doing it. It may be convenient, but I would think to make safe in operation, would be not worth the effort. Calor systems are very efficient and safe.------------- Geeljay

There is no reason why you cannot fit refillable cylinders as Klyne has suggested. There are a couple of a suppliers - Gaslow being the most well known. You would need a fixed inlet to fill these as most garages do not like cylinders being filled directly. You should only use the correct cyliders as these have a valve to prevent them being filled over 80%,
There are a couple of threads on other forums that you may find useful.
