my carver cascade 2 water heater will not ignite, when switching on it makes no sounds what so ever and after about 10 seconds the red light illuminates, there is a good gas supply to the heater (what can be wrong with it other than replacing the burner control module)
It must be doing something as the red is a signal back from the module? at this time of year the modules electronics could be damp and responds well to a night in the airing cupboard
thanks gary,i mailed you through your web site by the way,is the unit difficult to remove? , and could there be any other problems which may cause these symptoms.
For test purposes it's safe to run the cascade on gas for up to 30 seconds without water, not a good idea to try this on electric though!
I was going to next suggest you remove the outer flue cover and the burner cover plate underneath, once the burners exposed you can see what if anything is happening when it trys to light.
You will need to do this to remove the module, you will then find two pozi screws very low down under the gas valve on the right hand side.
This is also the gas connection so gas off first, unscrew the screws and the module slides out, if it's jammed then the black box lid inside will have popped open and you will need go inside andt squeeze this shut to get it started through the slot. Once out you can then unplug the connection to the control switch.
Replacement is a reversal but remember to lift the left end of the burner before you finish tightening the screws, this will make sure the foam seal at the back of the burner is as high as it wants to go (without force) and makes a good seal when the screws are tight.
it does have water in the tank,i take it by your post gary that you think it is the module that is faulty and not anything else iwill remove the module at the weekend and may have to replace it ,do you sell them and how much are they, thanks for your input .allan
my Saga of the carver mk 2 . 3 weeks ago i have a Caravan given to me its a Lytton. one Ive never heard of ? however the water heater did not work . I read all i could find on here as i knew nothing about the heaters . so took off the outside cover to find it saturated with water to see water dribbling down from this round plug in the middle of the fins later to find out its a fusible plug .i got it out with car socket set Paid a fiver at local caravan shop and replaced it while looking around i noticed the carpet the tank rests on was saturated. so decided to take the lot out and have a good look with gentle prising of a flat blade screwdriver i got the whole tank out. After dismantling whole seat to get to pipes .got the burner assembly out lifted the electronics lid to find green slimy water covering the circuit board so put some fairy liquid on it gave it a light scrub then washed it all under hot tap . let it dry for 24 hours . then onto finding the leak . i fixed garden hose to the inlet to find water leaking round the edge of the tank . As i had decided the unit was a dead duck It did not matter if I broke it . so undid the large nut at the end pulled off the tank to find a large O ring out of position. I am thinking its due to freezing at some time previously
reseated O ring and refixed the large nut , gave another test with hose and all seems fine . Reinstalled the main unit in caravan filled it with water and fingers crossed switched on and the sparker started a few seconds later it lit up its worked for 6 hours now and i have kept an eye on it to ensure it shut down when it reached temp .so dont give up ,cost of repair £5 my labour about 7 hours . Roy
If it's broke, I can't make it any worse so have a go. Always been my philosphy and the process has taught me how to repair any number of things.
The only problem is for my dear OH who may greet me with a little excitement on coming home from work to announce that the washing machine has gone up in smoke and there's a rather nice new one advertised in Acme Electrical Appliances shop. I then proceed to have a quick look at the offending equiment first and find that I can replace the motor brushes for a couple of quid and away she goes for another year or two.
