I shower fine in my van. I have the hot tap on full and the cold tap on half and the temperature is great. However, when I turn the hot tap off, there is not any cold water coming out of the shower head! So, my question is... how does this actually work then?

Sounds like the microswitch in the cold tap is broken.

The switch in the hot tap will still power the pump once switched on, and as the cold tap is `open` water will flow until the hot tap is closed.

Ah, I obviously did not explain this properly. The hot works great and the cold works great individually. So with my settings, I assumed a certain amount of cold water was mixing with the hot water to give me correct temperature. But as I said, if I turn hot tap off first, no cold is coming out of shower head so I do not understand quite how it is working at correct temperature.

Does it get colder if you turn the cold tap on full?

Think you are right. Having thought about it I would think that although the pump is being actuated by the hot tap, it is pushing a limited amount of cold thro the cold tap. When I turn the hot off of course the pump switches off so that stops the bit of cold coming thro too. I guess.
