I recently did mine. As posted above it's really important to support the shower tray all the way round to stop it flexing and cracking. I also wanted a method that is only semi permanent so I can take the shower tray out fairly easily should there be another problem in the future.
I tried to find a lightweight self-leveling compound, without much luck. I've heard people have used expanding Pu foam, but I was concerned about the expansion rates (some foam have a ratio of 50:1, and I had visions of the shower tray ending up somewhere near the top of the loo, or higher lol).
I decided to use Evlow (it's a non-expanding Pu foam) - DONT use it, it's c**p. It needs contact with air to set properly so once you put the shower tray on the top it reverts to a liquid state.
After I'd taken it all out and cleaned everything again, I used tubes of (cheapest I could find) acrylic sealant.
Step by step:
1. Covered the shower room floor with damp proof membrane polythene.
2. Covered the underside of the shower tray with clingfilm.
3. Fixed four plastic spacing blocks to the floor at the height I needed the shower tray to sit.
4. Piped the sealant onto the floor
5. Placed the shower tray on top of the sealant and pushed into place until I could feel it touching the spacing blocks.
6. Placed an even covering of magazines & books into the shower tray.
7. Once dried (left mine 48 hours) refitted the waste and screws.
I've not had any problem with mine since. There is a minute amount of 'give/movement' when you first stand in, but I'm sure this is simply because it isn't actually glued down. There's certainly not enough to cause any cracking, because the tray is supported along it's entire under surface.
I weighed everything I used and it's only added 5.5kg to the van, so no problem there either.
