Hi Gaisey. You will have to compress the damper by inserting something down the hollow towtube(large screwdriver?), until the holes line up. You then insert the pin(or a bolt with the head cut off, of the correct length.

Hi Laurie, thanks for your answer  I did try that but it seemed to stiff to push back and I could'nt get in very well as I havn't took the other bolt out yet in case it made the situation worse but are you saying I should take the al-ko off then use a ram to compress the damper ?

thanks again

Hi Gainsey, When I fitted my Alko stabiliser, I took the rear fixing out, See Here, does that give you any ideas?

Hi Gainsey. Yes, the damper is secured to the hitch by the rearmost bolt only. To Compress the damper you will have to remove the front bolt aswell. Then remove the hitch: then compress the damper using a "pusher" rod/screwdriver and insert the dummy bolt(pin) to hold it in place. You can then replace the hitch using the proper bolt to push out the dummy bolt and locate the hitch. Remember to insert the bolt(s) facing the right way.

Hi, what you do is put your new head on the tube & secure it with the front bolt, have a screwdriver or similar ready, then shove the hitch head all the way back, it will shove the damper back for you, when its fully back grab the handle & pull the hitch back out as fast as you can, the damper will come forward much slower, then you can shove the screwdriver into the rear hole & through the damper as it comes past, you will then need to shove out the screwdriver with the rear bolt as you replace it.
