Anyone got any good tips to adding some blinds to my caravan.
Too much light getting through the curtain gaps.
Spotted argos selling some for under £8 but not sure which type they are. Seems some have a plastic chain to roll them up and down & others are sprung loaded.
Hi i used the ones with the plastic chain and they were fine at blocking the light on side and back windows but cant use them for front, also what i done was to put a ring at the bottom of the blind and very small hook to hook it on and that blocked lots more, my mate also used some cheap sun screen and put velcro on it and put that up in his front windows to block most of the light, nice and light to carry and did the job fine.
i paid about £50 to do all my old van and one proper blind was about £60 x 6 =£360 and now i have bought a new van with blinds i find that you have to be very carefull when using them as they are not that strong, but the old ones where easy to use.
used the blinds at argos in our old van and they were fine.you may need to reduce it in size but this was easy to do as it was only a cardboard tube on the inside.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I fitted some Argos black-out blinds to our caravan last year. Worked a treat. On the sloping windows I put a curtain wire across the bottom to hold it in place when closed.
Only problem is the cardboard tube that the blind wraps around. It must have soaked up moisture over the winter & expanded causing the blinds to bow in the middle. I just got around to correcting this last night actually. The best cure I found was to get a couple of cheap steel tubed broom handles from Wilkos (67p each), these weigh nothing & slipped nicely inside the cardboard tubes.
Also, remove the excess from the blind as they are 3 or 4 times as long as they need to be. (Extra weight).
Fitting was easy, just a bit fiddly.
Will post a couple of pics later if I get the chance...
Most of the blinds used in Caravans can be cut down to fit a new opening I got 5 blinds off an old Lunar for £30 and made them to fit our Piper Executive, they block the light out completely, I am currently cutting one down for the rooflight.
