We seem to have a problem with our cascade water heater, the hot water does not come on unless the cold water is turned on as well, then we noticed that the red overflow pipe underneath the heater was running the hot water away under the van and it was red hot!
If anyone has any ideas we would be very grateful to hear them.
sounds like it needs to be closed the overflow pipe.ask gary arc systems. if the tap has wires going to it then the hot tap needs a new micro switch.the cold one is turning on the pump.
Had a similar problem with mine a few months ago. The hot water outlet from the heater leads to a T-piece. One leg goes to the water system and the other to the overflow. There is a non return valve in the T-piece which had failed in my case.
United British Caravans, Newcastle supplied and fitted the part free of charge, even though the van is out of warranty. (No connection with company other than as a satisfied customer).
It's a simple job to do - I had the valve off a dozen tiimes before I worked out what was wrong.
The Cascade mk2 does not have an 'overflow' although this is not the first time I've heard of one being fitted!
I wonder if it's there to relive pressure as the water heats up?, this way when you use a cold tap the hot cannot force it's way back through the cold water inlet and warm the cold water?
Th point being, the Cascades cold water inlet fitting should contain a non-return valve inside to stop this happening with therefore no need of an 'overflow'
I would first get rid of the overflow by connecting the hot pipe direct to the heaters hot outlet at the top, and then see how the system works, as I said it's shouldn't be there in the first place so nothing should 'blow' up!!
As we don't know how old this van is, there are two exceptions , first, the Cascade mk1 1980-4 had a pressure release but that's all under the van.
Second, Carver used their own version of the Truma Ultrastor on ABI vans between 82 and 84, this was known as the Carver 'B0' and used a combined pressure release/drain valve with a lever to lift for draining, but, not connected to the hot pipe I don't think?
