Hi - just come back from holiday and had problems with this Caravan Thetford toilet. Everytime I came to empty - there was waste around the handles etc of the holding tank. The blade opens ok and most seems to go where it should but just a small amount urine seems to always end up in handle area of Holding tank plus toilet area has  developed a smell!

We tried using the device with blade open all time - made little difference. I checked the level of the van to see if any problems all ok. Anyone any ideas? I wondered if new seal above the blade is the problem - it looks intack and not perished. Can this be adjusted to give a tighter seal between tank and toilet? Any advice greatfully received

Hi Thanks Wizard. I wasn't sure if the seal was purely to keep evrything seal inside the Holding tank? I did think that any seal would have to be touching the under part of the main toilet block in-order that nothing leaks out.

look here,if old style the the seal needs replacing as they swell and do not seal, from about 2003 that is not a problem.make sure the seal area inside the caravan is free from any water before you remove the tank otherwise the residue is spilt over the tank top when removing.

Thanks Michael. This is a C4 Thetford toilet and not sure of its age. But after removing the holding tank and looking up at the toilet there is just a rectanglur flat plate (with the circular hole) I am assuming the seal you are on about is on the Holding tank (under the plate that slides) and that this should be a tight fit onto this recatngular plate I am describing?
