The flame on the stove is very low and remains so even after changing the bottle. We are using the new Calor light weight propane bottles. It is a 2004 Lunar and to date we have never had a problem with the gas supply and we use the caravan extensively. Can any one suggest a remedy? Thanks.
if you have a short rubber hose connection in use from the gas bottle to the caravan regulator gas can deteriorate the inside of the rubber pipe and cause residue to block the regulator ..a new regulator is required ..expensive ..but the new ones have built in protection from the well known problem ...a longer hose helps and moving the regulator to a higher position too..first off i would try to borrow a new regulator to try to rectify the fault ....
I already have a 1 year old long black hose so I guess that onw is ruled out of the equation. The bulkhead regulator has always been higher than the top of the gas bottles but up to a few months ago we were using either a 13 kg or 19 kg bottle which was o/s the caravan and obviously a lot lower than the bulkhead.
Guess I will have to change the bulkhead regulator. Hope it is a cheap easy DIY job!
Nothing whatsoever to do with the hose Ian, the problem has always been contaminated gas bottles? I can say from the blocked Cascade burner modules I'm getting in, it's a particular problem at the moment!
Overall solution for you is to replace your Truma reg with a 'Cleese' from www.bes.co.uk around £15 and it won't block up.
You will of course now also need to replace your contaminated hose but a normal rubber one is fine

I could be wrong, but am sure I read somewhere the black hose should be changed annually, the orange one is ok for three years.
yes and no? traditionally black was low pressure hose and therefore not being as good a quality as the orange coloured high pressure hose, would not last as long.
In this situation the colour is irrelevant as it has to be a high pressure hose and should last a number of years.
As an aside though, I fitted an orange HP hose to my van 3yrs ago, it's never been exposed to direct sunlight as it's permanently in the gas locker, I noticed the other day it's full of cracks!. I've another length I bought at least 12yrs ago which was permanently outside exposed to come what may, that's a bit stiff now but otherwise serviceable? The perfectly good black LP hose I use every day for testing is the original from my dads 1974 Avondale!!!
In short the colour is no guarantee of anything, so of whichever colour it should be inspected regularly and changed when cracks appear. Or probably better, don't wait for cracks but change when it's stiffness through age becomes a nuisance.
Hi Gary, You may recall that sometime in April /May we had a long chat about the electric heating in the caravan and the new style remote thermostat.
Are you referring to part number 16543 Low Pressure Regulator for Leisure Vehicles on the BES site? Is it a straight forward fit by just taking out the old one and replacing it.
We suspect the gas bottles which are the new Calor lite bottles as we never had any problem with the old style bottle and the fact that these larger bottles were connected up outside the front locker, so they were always lower thsan the bulkhead regulator.
We are considering whether to go back to the 13 kg bottles as it is a whole lot cheaper to refill than 2 x 6 kg bottles at £37! BP Lite have now priced themselves out of the market!
Hi Ian, I do remember the convo and waiting for you really. In the mean time I've got one of my 'uprated' control board down with an expert, I'm now waiting for his thoughts as to if I can improve things further?
As for this gas problem, I've had a long chat with someone today and my pet theory as to exactly what's causing it was put into doubt, you saying the new calorlite bottles have caused your problem tends toward confirming I'm wrong!
Nevertheless, the problem still originates from the bottle, of that there is no doubt, my theory of how it gets there is not really the issue.
Fitting the Cleese single stage regulator is simple and will in one respect cure the problem, ie, this regulator will not block and stop the gas supply. However the problem then reverts back to where it's always been, that's in the vans pipework where it may or may not cause other problems over time.
The good news from the conversation was things are being done about a complete cure? The really good news is and after several failed attempts, a complete cure is under test and showing excellent results... sorry I don't know any more than that except it will be on the market as soon as proven.
i'm sorry to leave a message on here but I note in a previous message you had a set of curtains for a dorema awning. I have just purchased a second hand sirocco awning with no curtains
