Have had a good root through other threads, but haven't found answer... yet....
When I connect van to car with engine running and then go into van and switch fridge on, there is a click and the lights go off inside, plus the volt-meter switches off.
When I switch fridge off, the reverse happens.
Is this normal?
Only just noticed after got new tow-bar and lectrics on my new Mondeo (56 Titanium X 130 diesel hatch)
Thanks for your reply wizard. Yes, ours is quite a new van, 2007 model.
I sort of thought that it may be normal, but electrics are not my strong point.
I think I'm just paranoid, after several problems with car and tow-bar since I got it 3 weeks ago. (all sorted now though, I hope)
I'm going to see if there's anyone's query I can answer now, so as to restore some karmic balance. ;-)
Thanks again.
Richard

To comply with European standard EN1648-1 on caravans manufactured after 1st September 1998 all 12 volt electrical systems must be swiched off with exception of the fridge when towing, it's something to do with electro magnetic compatibility and interference with car electrical systems,so as soon as the relays detect that the tow car is connected and the engine is running they will turn everything off execept the fridge and battery charger. Simples.
That's really appreciated. It's nice to know the reasons behind it.
Cheers,
Richard

I've hooked it up and tried it all out, checking all the options and it all seems to make sense now.
Thanks for feedback.
Off to Cheddar this weekend with new car for first time!
