Hi,I have just bought a brand new Avondale Eagle that has been in a fire.The van was not burnt in any way but the exterior was covered in soot and there is damage to the roof hatches and interior lights on the ceiling have warped along with the top of the shower.I would really like to get the exterior clean but I am struggling to find anything up to the task.
I have had a go on a tiny area with a brilo pad and it takes the soot off but obviously scratches the body.
if it smells it will take ages to get rid of the smell
Tried sugar soap but it was having none of it.The smell inside is getting better by the day.I have had all the curtains,cusions and mattress cleaned and been right through the cupboards and every nook and crannie I can get into,cleaning like a mad man.
Use 'magic erasers' they look like a sponge but remove nearly everything, available from most stores, wilkos, lidl,aldi etc etc just using slightly diff. names.

We used a special product called 'de-carb' to remove soot and the smell, you might ask a 'fire and flood' restoration company if you can buy something similar from them. A good carpet cleaning firm might also carry it.
Problem though is soot is a very corrosive acid when wet, if it's been on any length of time with any moisture present, then it will have burnt itself in to the surface.
It might be then this damage you are exposing rather than the scourer doing it while your cleaning it?
