Hi all,

Well we've started our repairs. We have replaced the non-awning side rail filling the back of the groove (see earlier post) with mastic and then putting mastic strip along the back of the rail including the rubbery trims and screwing back onto the van. Nearly all screws bit well so probably no rot in the main spars on this side (fingers crossed).

Is there a good way to tidy up the mastic that squeezes out from behind the rail? Our rail isn't very straight and there are different levels in the side panels, so in places the mastic barely fills the gap at the edges but in others there's quite a bit left on the outside .

Ripped out the rotten boards and opened up the van on sunny days to dry out.

Also got a couple of quotes to do the roof seam. It does look like that was where the water was getting in at the back of the van. No sign of damp along the rest of the seam.

Thanks for all your help.
