We normally operate the refrigerator on mains electricity. Last weekend we went to a music festival and needed to operate the refrigerator on gas. It would not start up and not wanting to spend my time at the festival doing caravan maintenance we managed without a fridge. On arriving home I managed to track the problem to a poor connection in the 12 volt fridge circuit near the distribution panel. Immediately I reconnected the poor connection the ignition circuit worked fine and the refrigerator there on functioned perfectly on gas. On lighting the refrigerator the igniter correctly switched off and the refrigerator started to cool. Feeling successful I went indoors for a cup of tea leaving the refrigerator running. On returning to the caravan I was concerned to hear the re-igniter operating (and the switch flashing). I suspected the refrigerator had been blown out by the breeze but on close inspection found the refrigerator continuing to work correctly. I have since tried restarting the refrigerator several times and on each occasion the refrigerator lights and continues to function well but the ignition fails to switch off. The refrigerator is an Electrolux (Dometic) RM 4271 and the caravan is a 1999 ABI Manhattan. Obviously I can switch off the ignition switch but this defeats a safety feature. Helpful comments please.

The mystery deepens - I have just gone out to the van again and the problemm has disappeared - now when I start the fridge on gas the igniter lights the fridge and stops sparking quickly. It is a lot cooler than earlier today when I was previously trying but I am perplexed the problem appears to have gone. Will it be back?
