Hi,

Has anybody else had one of these fail?

I have only used the jack twice, once when I fitted the brackets ..and yesterday when I tried to use it to level the van.

The piston only extends about 30mm and fluid leaks...looks like the main seal has gone. An expensive piece of kit and only two years old.

I will pop into Chipping Sodbury Caravans tomorrow and see what they say....(I'm not holding my breath!)

However, if it is a known fault I have European Legislation on my side!

Sounds like the piston has gone rusty with not being used and damaged the seal.

Naaaa...don't think it is rust, the jack is stored in its plastic box inside a van in a barn...the chrome plating on the piston seems fine.

Could it be a NASA 'O' ring?

I bought one last year and it failed at the first attempt with lots of fluid coming out

 It was changed by the dealer and the replacement has been OK

Don't need European legislation - you have the Sale of Goods Act 1979 that states that goods must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. A jack that fails after two uses is neither, even when you've had it for two years, as a jack should easily last for many years.

To be fair, Chipping Sodbury Caravans replaced the jack, without a reciept. Apparently this was a "known fault" on early versions.

The worrying thing is that I have towed the van for two years without a servicible jack, 1200 miles in France a couple of months ago!
