do not think it will work under a bed,as a rule they are placed just above head height as for the Co alarm.ask here

I fitted a lpg alarm in my old caravan , it was approx 6inches off the floor .
I still have the fitting instructions , if you'd like them send me a email ( address below ) .
Ideally if possible you should contact the maker of the alarm and ask them to supply you with the alarm fitting instructions .

If the gases are heavier than air it should be low. If they are lighter than air it should be higher.

Don't know how much the gasses weigh but someone will.

Understand both Propane and Butane are heavier than air, hence the requirement for floor vents in gas lockers, and bans on use in high-rise buildings and storage below ground level.
