Please help ?? Within the last month I have traded in a dry caravan and purchased a second hand caravan from a reputable dealer.  When buying the caravan I asked if the caravan had damp, as this was my main concern, and was told by the salesman "no".  I bought the van and have had an independent check and found there was 30% plus damp around the roof light in the end washroom.  I have returned the van to the dealer so they can inspect and not sure how to proceed.  They have said that they would repair the damp but I have no faith now as they also said it had been serviced which I have later found out to be also untrue.  If I had not gone ahead with the indepent check I would have been sold a caravan with severe damp across the end washroom roof.  Any advice would be gratefully appreciated - what would you do?

It is not as advertised and sold to you so I would take it back for a full refund.

Did the van come with any guarantee?

Would suggest it might be worth getting a legal opinion but you may have a case to reject as not being "as described" and\or unfit for purpose.

I would reject the van out of hand.Ok,the van may have suffered damp between their check and the sale to you and this may be their argument but to go on and tell you the van has service history when it blatantly hasn't is a lie which influenced you to buy the van.If they refuse to reimburse you threaten to name and shame on here.

We had a very similar problem last year. Our 1st caravan spent 1 week in cornwall in the summer it rained 80% of the holiday, when dismantling the bunks the bedding was damp, turned out to be letting in water at the back of the van. £5,500 + bought a new awning to fit the van & £250 for digital ariel we'd spent on it.

Dealer said he'd collect it & have a look at it - we emptied it of all our stuff. We said we wanted guarantees for the damp work they carried out, he said he felt we didn't trust him & offered up us a full refund - which is what we were going to fight for if it wasn't offered.

Caravan club were very helpful they offer legal advice on this sort of thing too if your a member.

Take it to the dealer & get a full refund - you'll find something even better!
