Here goes.  Getting ready for using van and checked heater operation,  Its fine on 230v but not on gas.  On pressing the on button I get the green and orange light.  The manual says charge the battery but I know that is fine.  Without removing the heater I put my hand underneath whilt the orange battery light was on and whilst fiddling I noticed that the light flickered.  I was able to hold the 12v connecter in such a postition that when pressing the on light I could hear the igniter spark and the flame ignite and then about ten seconds later I could hear the flame extinguish.  Clearly I have a loose electrical connections but could there be anotehr problem also?

The square pins the connection plugs onto only make contact on the underside of the pins, it only then takes a tiny amount of corrosion here to give a poor connection and produce the fault you experience.

You'll need to remove the burner module to get at them and scrape the pins clean with the edge of a craft knife or similar.

Thanks for your speedy response. I have some sealing tape so am equipped to replace after removal but I envisgae that removing the burner module will be a little tricky.  Is the stiction of the old sealant a problem; do I have to work it free with a scraper

Nothing like that in involved, you don't have to remove the whole heater!

The module is held in by two screws and takes just a couple of minutes to take out, if you give me a ring I'll explain but I'm not going to explain chapter and verse on an open forum!

Thought I'd cracked it last night (thanks to some brilliant advice from Gary at arc sytems.  It was working great.  This morning however it is not. I press the button, hear the spark, hear the ignition, then a few seconds later I hear the click of the gas valve closing and the flame extinguish and the red light comes on.  Gas supply is good.

Damp me thinks, possibly also the earth wire where it bolts to the back of the burner, try cleaning this up and also pull the ignition lead connection off the board, (carefully), and push it back on a couple of times to clean that connection.
Both of these will be made worse by damp

No particular known faults with March 99 modules, just the usually ones of which not recognising the flame is lit is very common throughout.

Thanks Gary - did as suggested.  Worked fine for 3 days.  Then, just when I felt confident enough to tell the Mrs that I had fixed it, het presto, as if by magic it stopped working.  Tried a couple of dozen times, no good.  I took  the outside covers off to remove the module again and I don't know why but felt the urge to test it once with the covers off; it worked fine, first time.  Put the covers back on and it now works again.  One common denominator I have just realised; on the several occasions that I have removed the module I have always tested it with covers off, and it has always worked, once I've seen the flame I put all the covers back on and it works fine for a day or 2.  So I am thinking that, in future, if the module stops working I take the outside covers off, start the burner a  couple of times with the covers off and all will be well for a couple of days. I notice a little moisture in the vicinity of the burner but nothing sigificant. Bizarre.

Water again, any water from the leak getting inside the black box is going to cause trouble, get the module out, open the box, turn the circuit board over and dry it all out overnight in the airing cupboard.

As for the original leak, first you don't mention a new 'big' sealing O ring? this must be replaced as it's no longer round.
Second, the tank must be firmly clamped to the heat exchanger, test for this by trying to rock the tank side to side, any movement and it's going to leak.

Looks like my thread may have been hijacked.  I have no water on my burner module. Just this bizarre situation that if I want to get the thing working again I have to take off the outside covers?  I have seen tiny amounts of water in the recess below the burner but nothing near the module.  And with the covers off it fires into action no problems.  What's that all about.

Well its now October and I'm getting the caravan ready for the half term break.  Thought I'd see if anything had changed with the water heater.  Gave it a try and same as before, it lights and then moments later extinguishes.  So once agin I took of the outside covers and after lighting it stayed lit, no problems.  I don't mind buying new parts if I knew what to buy but it seems to me that I will just have to take off the outside cover every time I pitch up.

Well there's been a lot of water under the bridge this year since this thread started? still, I've given it some thought and I haven't got a clue! not the first time I've heard of this either!!

My guess is there is some stupid fault with the module that I may well spot straight away, but without seeing it I've not idea

I have a carver cascade rapide.
The unit has always worked fine until today grrr. On the small panel the green light comes on then 10 seconds later the red light. There is full water pressure no airlocks etc. A quick turn of the fast drain and water squirts out too. I have gas also. I've tried several times to start it but the red light still comes on. I've also tried the turn it on wait 3 minutes then try again method. Still it's not igniting. Any ideas Gary or guys?

Ideas? all mentioned above Paul, apart from the last one about it working with the cover off which happens but very rare.
I'm away though if you've tried ringing, back on the 10th

PS Stunned this OP being 4yrs old so well done for digging!

I typed into google carver cascade rapide not working and a few ukcs threads popped up. I clicked on one and see this post. I also clicked on your arc web page and got your number. I'm out in the camper now and I've been trying to get it working all day grrr. I will give you a call if I don't succeed in firing it up.
I'm baffled as to why it's suddenly stopped working from last weekend, it was just fine then. Could it be the igniter maybe?
