Was working fine, then van tripped and now we cant get any warm air through the heating system = any ideas from this wonderful site? Is there a trip switch on the carver heater itself? Everything else is working fine i.e., hot water, electrics. Many thanks in anticipation.
The trip switch is Here not sure if it's your problem though? you say the 'van tripped' do you have any idea why?
Also early 95 model Fanmasters did not have a trip, these used a 'thermal fuse' and if blown needs replacing with an reset switch upgrade kit, (I have those).
Gary - its the 1800SC model fitted to a 1998 ABI Dalesman (presumably fitted when new?). Hubby has pressed the switch, though there is hardly any play in this, shown on your picture but to no avail. Any more wonderfully helpful ideas - thanks in anticipation...
Very strange! you now need to get technical and actually test where 240v is getting too?
Has the isolation switch got a red light to show it's on? if so and it's lit you can assume the power is getting that far.
Some isolation switches are though known to become faulty?
After that, what else is on the Fanmaster circuit? are they working?
Re visited our non heat problem yesterday and hubby found that it was a blown fuse in the control panel. He had taped over the two led lights as he is a freak at nights hating any lights in the van. One wasnt lit and found the fuse had blown. Heating working fine now.
have just read the above regarding Carver Blown Air not working because I have the same problem. The last time I used my van I noticed that the Blown air fan was working but no warm air coming out. Have followed your tips and finally got it working.
BUT .... I have found the problem. I have never had an issue with the electrics before this, So I took my van into work and started turning things on. Took me a while to get the warm air working but then found that if I turn the FRIDGE off I have no problem getting warm air. If I turn the Fridge on I lose warm air because it trips the circuit.
Confused ... Like I said I have never had an issue with the Fridge and cannot understand why It's just started doing this.
I can ofer a few ideas, you say the fridge trips the 'circuit' do you mean just one circuit? or the whole van?
Either way or particularly if the whole van, then I'd expect the fridge element is damp, very often running the fridge on gas for 24/48hrs will provide enough heat to dry the damp and cure the fault.
It's also possible the vans battery charger is on the same circuit, if so are you sure this is not the cause?
Lastly, I'm not sure why the fridge is on the same circuit, normally the fridge is on the 6A MCB together with the charger, the Fanmaster needs 10A minimum
When I turn the fridge dial it doesnt trip the MCB if just knocks off the heater element for the blown air. I have used a multi meter and found no power when fridge is on but full to blown air with heat when fridge is off.
Confused. I have checked fuses in the panel which houses blown air controls and lights etcetc. everything is fine.
Am going to try the gas for 48 hours like you said.
hi and welcome to UKCS, the short answer is yes, simple enough job as well.
The fanmaster is designed to use the same fixing points as the original fan and the blown air pipes also fit straight in. 12v supply though goes to switch first and then onto the fanmaster though it's own three wire loom.
All that's needed then is a 240v supply through a 'fused switch spur, fused at 10A or 13A, this feed can then be taken from the rear of the nearest convenient plug socket using 1.5mm flex cable.
Full instruction is in the downloadable Fanmaster mk1 manual on my website
I'm not electrically minded and struggling to understand what is happening with ours. We have a 1998 Elddis, auto fan blow heating works fine gets up to temperature then switches itself off, when it turns itself back on it's blowing cold until I press the reset button that Gary kindly posted information on for other members. It becomes a bit tedious having to take the draw out to reset it!
For the moment I'd think the Fanmaster needs taking out and stripping so it can be thoroughly cleaned out, seems to me the elements are full of muck and there is not enough air flow through them when fan slows down.
One question though, is the fan motor noisy at all? screeching ect?
