Can anyone advise how to undertake a repair on several large cracks in the front of our caravan. The area of concern is plastic which I understand is difficult to repair but feel there must be some way we can sort it out.
We store it for free but the shed where it is stored is also used by others. However we think the person that stores his tractor and implements in there has hit the front corner area when he moved the tractor with one of the implements on it - proving it is another matter!!
It would appear that we can access the back of the cracks via the front locker and luckily the damage does not breach any of the walls which would make it liable to water ingress.
Both can be repaired successfully but using different materials:
GRP: put a patch of chopped glass matting on the back of the crack with fibreglass resin to reinforce it, then use gelcoat filler to fill the face of it before rubbing it down and spraying to match colour
ABS: drill holes at either end of crack to stop spreading, deepen the crack to accept filler, clean crack with surface cleaner, prime crack with primer adhesion promoter, stick reinforcing tape to back of crack, fill crack to just below surface with two part bonding filler, rub down filler to just below surface after it has cured, apply a further coat of primer, apply top coat filler, rub down and spray first with etching paint and then with matching colour
Both systems are available in repair kit form

Thanks for this info. Can you clarify what ABS and GRP stands for and advise where I would be able to get hold of the products required. Are they available from places such and B & Q, Halfords etc and is it the type of stuff you would repair vehicles bumpers with.
Great - thank for this info. Looks like hubby and I haven't got the weekend to ourselves - what do you bet that its a glorious weekend and we're stuck in a shed!!!
