Hi , just got back from a 7 day break , we had electric hookup , and noticed on day 3 the board controls on our Abbey Vogue 495 (2009)were showing volts dropping to 11.2 & lower , system shut down then , lucklily I had bought a solar panel along 43watt and this kept the 12v system working .

Question is , how do I check if the Abbey charging system is working , I have a voltmeter .

If as I suspect its gone wrong are there any simple fixes - I found a 20amp fuse , but thats intact

Regards

Paul

if the battery is maintaining charge with the solar panel then the charger is at fault.when on EHU if you check the battery terminals when it should be on charge you should get a reading of 13.5 volts.check also any fuse that maybe inside the charger.ask gary if they can be repaired.

Hi Michael , thanks for your help - appreciated ,

I disconnected battery and its now on separate charge .

Plugged in mains and checked voltage at battery clamps - zero , which confirms your diagnosis - The EHU is pretty much sealed with one external 30amp fuse which is ok , so guess its back to the Swift dealership

Best regards

Paul

from your description you are draining your battery due to a PSU fault.most modern (post 1999 at least) have a PSU part of which is the battery charger. So if you are on EHU you do not actally need a battery, although it does help to smooth the 12 volt supply. If your battery is failing while you are on EHU I would suspect a PSU fault,or the 240v supply to it

Did you have the charger switched on and the 3 position (car, off & Van) switched to the van position if you did not it will switch off the charger, even if the charger mcb/switch is in the on position. It will supply 12dc to the van via the charging unit but will not charge the battery unless it is in the van position, Hope this of some help..
