Hiya everyone
I picked up my project van today (thurs 22/7/10) the first junction i came to and stopped at BANG! no brakes on the van only on the car,i continued gingerly to my storage place and then found when i tried to reverse the brakes locked on,now this van has stood for some time any ideas pals?

Hi dt 16, If van is very old they had a half circle (spacer) clip that went in between the hitch and the damper to stop brakes applying when in reverse, if it is not there and is not part of the hitch, then you will need try and loosen manualy from behind the drum to try and slacken them off,if thats not possible then you need to take off brake drums and reset them,you could also try hitting drum at front and rear, where brake shoes make contact with drum ( 1/4 to 3 position) to see if that will free binding brakes.(van wheels off).hope this helps keep us posted.------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong

could be the hitch damper going bang if its stood for some time.on the old hitches you had to lift a lever or pin to reverse. ------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
